UoN scoops two awards at DIAR 2022

The University of Nairobi scooped two awards at the 4th edition of the National Diversity and Inclusion Recognition and Awards 2022. UoN was among the finalist in the Best Public Universities on PWD Inclusion and was 1st runners up in the most inclusive public universities category.
The other finalist was Kenyatta University, Embu University and South Eastern Kenya University in the same categories.
Speaking during the awards dinner, CAS, Ministry of Health, Mercy Mwangangi, gave an account of what the ministry of health has done to be inclusive through their partnerships and networks. She also challenged hospitals to have inclusive delivery rooms.
On her part, Githii Mburu, Commissioner General, KRA noted that diversity means we should set aside some rules for people who are abled differently while inclusion is making the environment comfortable for those abled differently.
Persons with disability are more likely to experience adverse social and economic challenges, hence more prone to poverty. UN’s SDG 2030 seeks to ensure that PWDs are not left behind in shared prosperity.
Annie Mugambi from National Fund for Disability and Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia, NCIC also spoke during the gala dinner. Rev. Kobia advocated for peace during the election season.
